What This Countdown Shows

Team Fortress 2 limits how many random items a single account can receive through timed drops each week. When that weekly window rolls over, every account starts a fresh drop allowance. The timer above counts down to that moment and converts it to your own time zone automatically, so you always know whether it is worth jumping into a server tonight or waiting until after the reset.

The reset happens at the same instant for every player in the world. Depending on where you live it can fall on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning in local time, which is why a lot of players get confused about when their drops come back. The "Local reset time" line under the timer removes that guesswork.

If you want a nudge before the reset, you can turn on the optional browser reminders with the button above. They are completely free, do not require an account, and can be switched off at any time from the same button or from your browser settings.

How the Team Fortress 2 Item Drop System Works

The item drop system randomly hands out weapons, crates and, for Premium accounts, rarer goodies such as cosmetics, paints and tools. Drops are not tied to how well you play: a player who tops the scoreboard and a player who spends the round as a Medic behind the team earn the same chance, as long as they are actively connected to a valid game server.

1. Weekly playtime allowance

Valve caps drop-eligible playtime to roughly 10 hours per week. While you are within that allowance, the game periodically checks whether you should receive an item, which in practice works out to an item every 30 to 70 minutes on average. Once the allowance is used up, timed drops stop until the next weekly reset.

2. Unused time can carry over

If you skip a week, part of the unused drop time carries over, so returning players can receive more items than usual in their first week back. The carry-over is limited, so skipping several weeks in a row does not keep stacking indefinitely.

3. What can drop

Item Category Typical Contents Account Eligibility

Cosmetics & Hats Hats, miscellaneous cosmetics and taunts. Premium only (rare).
Tools & Consumables Name Tags, Description Tags, Paint Cans and similar items. Premium only (rare).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When does the TF2 weekly drop reset happen? The drop allowance resets every Thursday at 00:00 UTC, at the same moment for every player worldwide. In the Americas this is Wednesday afternoon or evening local time.
Do community servers give item drops? Yes. Timed drops work on official Valve servers and on VAC-secured community servers. Some heavily modded servers may not count, so if you are farming drops, stick to standard servers.
Can I get drops by sitting in the main menu? No. You need to be connected to a game server. Idling in the main menu or using third-party idling programs does not count and can put your account at risk.
What happens when I reach my weekly limit? Timed drops pause until the next Thursday reset. You can keep playing normally and earning achievements, contracts and stat progress; only the random drops stop.
How do the reset reminders work? They are standard browser push notifications. You will get a reminder before the reset even if this tab is closed. Click the button again to turn them off at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
